The Sport Marketing Association (SMA) endeavors to develop beneficial relationships between sport marketing professionals and academicians through expansion of the field's body of knowledge and multiple forums for professional interaction.

SMA VI Recap:

SMA VI, hosted by the Faculty of Business, University of Southern Queensland was held July 17 – 19, 2008 in beautiful Gold Coast, Australia.  An audience of more than eighty scholars, practitioners and students gathered for the conference.  Highlighting the academic sessions was the Outstanding Paper Presentation "SportWay Toward Sport Event Consumption," delivered by Drs. Dan Funk, Larry Neale, and Kevin Filo.  Those in attendance were also treated to an outstanding practitioner panel session comprised of Chris Green from the Passionate Group, Brian Waldron, CEO, Melbourne Storm, Leighton Wood, Chief Executive of Sport Knowledge Australia, Damien Brown, General Manager of Game Development Cricket Australia, and Scott Munn, AFL’s New Business and Consumer Products Manager.  

Congratulations and thank you to Dr. Jane Summers and Melissa Johnson for the wonderful event.


SMA VII:

SMA VII, to be hosted by Mount Union College, will be held in Cleveland, Ohio, October, 2009.  Details are forthcoming.
